Terms of Service

Effective September 20, 2026. These terms govern your use of Cortex, operated by Afferent Signal ("we", "us").

1. The service

Cortex analyzes consumer reviews of food, beverage, snack and pantry products that you upload, and produces shopper personas, shelf-defect labels, retail banner mentions and sell-in language. Some plans also match retail banners to store data from Afferent Synapse.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be acting on behalf of a business, and be authorized to accept these terms for it.

3. Your data and your responsibilities

• You keep all rights to the files you upload. You give us a limited license to store and process them solely to provide the service to you.
• You confirm that you have the right to use every file you upload and that it contains consumer review text for edible consumer products.
• You will not upload sensitive personal information, and you will not use the service or its output to identify, contact or profile any individual reviewer.
• You will not scrape, resell or redistribute the service, attempt to access other customers' data, or interfere with the service's operation.

4. AI-generated output

Personas, labels and sell-in lines are generated automatically, by a language model or by rule-based analysis, and may be incomplete or wrong. Review results before relying on them in a business decision or sales presentation. Store and banner data supplied through the Synapse-linked plan is provided as-is and may lag real-world changes.

5. Plans and fees

Plan limits are shown in the app. Fees, where applicable, are agreed with you before they are charged. We may change plans and limits with reasonable notice.

6. Ending your account

You may delete your account at any time from the Account page, which permanently removes your data. We may suspend or end accounts that violate these terms or threaten the service.

7. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or lost-profit damages, and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or US$100.
